Delhi no longer has Covishields; Maharashtra, MP also complains of vaccine shortage

New Delhi: Several states, including the national capital Delhi, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh, have reported a shortage of vaccines against Covid-19. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia informed that several government-run vaccination centers in Delhi will be closed on Tuesday as the city ran out of its stock of Covishield COVID-19 vaccines.

While sharing a report on the vaccine shortage, Sisodia said in a message on Twitter: “Vaccines are running out again in Delhi. The central government gives vaccines for a day or two, then we have to keep the vaccination centers closed for several days. Why is our country’s immunization program faltering even after so many days? “

According to reports, only 36,310 doses of the vaccine were given in the nation’s capital until 10 p.m. Monday.

Notably, daily inoculation has seen a significant drop since June 21 across the country. Besides Delhi, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh have also raised complaints about the vaccine shortage.

Data available on the CoWIN platform shows that an average of 61.14 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine was administered daily between June 21 and June 27. However, the average daily doses of vaccine dropped to 41.92 lakh doses during the following week in June. It further dropped to 34.32 lakh doses between July 5 and July 11.

India’s COVID-19 vaccine coverage has passed the historic milestone of 38 crores. Over 37.03 doses of lakh vaccine have been administered through Monday evening. The center plans to vaccinate the entire adult population in India by the end of December this year.
