Crypto expert Nick Szabo could be Satoshi Nakamoto and the mysterious Bitcoin creator, says Elon Musk

Even with its huge hype a few years ago, no one knows who the creator of Bitcoin is. The only one with the same title is the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Just as we can guess who this mysterious character might be, Elon Musk did the same and came up with the name Nick Szabo in response.

Nick Szabo or Nicholas Szabo is a computer scientist known for his work on digital finance and smart contracts. In 1998, Szabo came up with the idea of Bit gold, a highly fragmented digital currency that is considered to be a precursor to Bitcoin.

Because of this, Szabo is often regarded as the potential creator of Bitcoin in many online floating theories.

Elon Musk now seems to agree with this view. In a recent podcast with artificial-intelligence researcher Lex Fridman, Tesla CEO shared that the way to get Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity is to “look at the emergence of ideas” before the launch of bitcoin.

Musk suggested that we could see “who wrote about those ideas” and take the educated guess.

He clarified that “obviously” he did not know who the real creator of bitcoin was. However, he also noted that Nick Szabo’s theories have led to the emergence of the Bitcoin concept.

Musk said he was not sure if Szabo was there or not Nakamoto, but the boy certainly “seems to be more responsible for the ideas behind bitcoin than anyone else.”

Note that Szabo has publicly denied it, and has repeatedly denied any links to the creator of the mysterious use of the world-famous blockchain technology right now.

That, however, did not stop scientists from linking his name to digital currency. Yes, there are great reasons for that.

Szabo’s Bit Gold project is another. Another reason is the similarity found between Satoshi Nakamoto’s white bitcoin paper and Szabo’s writing.

Among the other 10 possible candidates, the 2014 poll found similarities between Nakamoto’s and Szabo’s writings, while none of them were found close.
