Millions of people grappling with food shortages

The World Food Program (WFP) said in its report on the situation in Sri Lanka on Friday that 6.3 million people, or 28% of the country’s population, are facing food insecurity and the situation could worsen. worsen as the crisis deepens. At least 65,600 of those people face severe food insecurity, according to the report. The WFP has warned that this number could rise rapidly if immediate action is not taken.

63 million dollars needed to control the situation

The WFP said that due to soaring food prices, it is becoming difficult for the population to meet food needs. About 67 lakh people are unable to follow proper diet. The agency is expanding its reach to reach 34 million people in 2022. The WFP said it urgently needed $63 million for its lifesaving assistance.
