India hopes to resume vaccine exports
India, the world’s largest vaccine maker, wants to resume exports of coronavirus vaccines, but cannot do so until its domestic needs are met. The head of the country’s Kovid-19 task force said this on Friday.

Dr Vinod K Paul said: “Once our urgent need to immunize a significant part of the Indian population is met and vaccines are stored from various sources, we would like to play the role of serving and providing vaccines to other countries. Paul defended the Indian government’s decision to restrict the export of the vaccine in April due to the rapid rise in infections and deaths in the country.

He said India donated enough vaccines at the start of the year when it started its vaccination campaign. This should be respected because many countries have not. India started exporting vaccines to more than 90 countries in January. But when the infection increased in India, exports stopped.
