CM Mamata writes to PM: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday about the flood situation in some districts of the state. In the letter, the Trinamool Congressional Leader (TMC) said the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) released water through its dams unexpectedly, which led to man-made flooding.

At the same time, CM Mamata Banerjee also urged Prime Minister Modi to plan for the modernization of the dams.

Previously, the Prime Minister had called Banerjee to examine the flood situation in West Bengal and had assured all Center assistance in dealing with it. During the talks, Prime Minister Modi asked if it is raining a lot in West Bengal. The chief minister told him that the situation is man-made and that the DVC is responsible for it.

She even told the prime minister that the DVC unexpectedly released water, making the situation worse in the state.

A company official said the DVC released 5.43 lakh cusecs of water from July 31 through Tuesday evening. The official said the chief minister, who is visiting the flood-affected Udaynarayanpur district, told the prime minister that the administration will send a report to the PMO after completing the investigation into the situation of the floods. floods and damage caused by them.

Later, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted that Modi had assured Banerjee all possible help from the Center to deal with the situation. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about the flood situation in parts of the state after water was released from the dams,” PMO said. The Prime Minister assured them of all possible central help to deal with the situation. Prime Minister Modi wished for the safety of people in the affected areas.

Almost 3 lakhs of people were displaced by flooding in Bengal

Almost three lakh people have been displaced due to flooding in several places in West Bengal due to heavy rains and at least 15 people have died in incidents of house collapses and electrocution. During this time, water was released from the DVC dams and inundated Howrah and Hooghly as well as the districts of East Burdwan, West Burdwan, West Midnapore, and South 24 Parganas.

The official said Banerjee’s program to conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Howrah and Hooghly districts had to be postponed due to bad weather. She said that instead, she would leave for Amta in Howrah by road. She may consider going to Hooghly rather than Khankul if the weather conditions improve. Standing in knee-deep water, Banerjee spoke to those affected in Amta and assured them of all possible help from the state government.
