Central government’s statement on rising prices of petrol

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday called the rise in fuel prices unprecedented in the Rajya Sabha. He said the unprecedented increase in fuel prices is a challenge.

Responding to the discussion on the finance bill in the Rajya Sabha, Nirmala Sitharaman told the House that from 2010-11 to 2021-22, the central government raised Rs 11.32 lakh crore through tax on gasoline and diesel. He said that out of this amount, the government had spent Rs 11.37 lakh crore during this period.

Gasoline crosses 100 mark again in Delhi

In the country’s capital, Delhi, the price of petrol has risen from Rs 99.41 per liter to Rs 100.21 per liter today and the price of diesel has risen from Rs 90.77 per liter to Rs 91 .47 a liter today. Today petrol is up 80 paise per liter and diesel is up 70 paise per liter

Gasoline and diesel prices and prices of petrol have increased across the country, but their prices vary from state to state depending on local taxes. Petrol prices in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have already crossed Rs 100 per litre. In the capitals of most states, oil has crossed the “century” mark.

It should be noted that the price of petrol in Delhi had crossed Rs 100 per liter on July 7, 2021 and at one point peaked at Rs 110.04. Then, on November 4, the central government reduced excise duties on vehicle fuel. Gasoline and diesel prices were raised on March 22 after remaining flat for a record 137 days. Prices have been increased for the seventh time since then.

The highest fuel cost in the country is in the Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. In this border district, the price of gasoline reached Rs 117.14 per liter while diesel reached Rs 99.96 per liter. In addition to local taxes, the cost of fuel is also affected by transportation costs. The price of crude oil was close to $112 a barrel on Tuesday.
