The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to postpone the Grade 12 exams and cancel the Grade 10 2021 board board examinations. Grade 10 students will be assessed based on a variety of procedures including internal and operational marks. In the event that a student is unhappy with the marks awarded to them based on formulas they may apply to appear on the Board 10 examination later. The dates for these special exams and the annual 12th grade exams have not yet been announced.
For Class 12 students, the situation will be reviewed in June and a revised date will be announced if the situation is deemed appropriate for the board exams. The date sheet will be announced at least 15 days before the exams to ensure that students receive adequate time, according to the Department’s official statement.
CBSE decisions have also affected other education boards. CISCE official told that Council is reconsidering to hold board exams. Although no decision has been made, it will be announced soon. The Maharashtra board also said it would review the action taken by the CBSE. Earlier MSBSHSE demanded a similar policy across the country. There is a need for the UP Board to cancel the Grade 10 exams while the Rajasthan Board has already postponed both the 10th and 12th grade exams.
While some provinces are following this, others including Karanataka, Telangana have decided to hold tests in both classes 10 and 12.
The CBSE decision collected mixed responses from parents and students. It expressed concern about the admission of colleges among 12th grade students while 10th grade students were worried about how they would be tested. The Board does not share detailed decision-making status.
The CBSE decision was taken after the Minister of Education held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the conference, many opportunities were considered to include the option to take the online exam.
Earlier this week, the Department of Education and the CBSE held a meeting amid growing demand for cancellation of board exams. As a large course session was held online this year. Students, teachers, and politicians from all over the country demanded that the board exams be completed. Among the growing cases of the coronavirus epidemic were concerns about the health of students and teachers at work during exams and concerns about the quality and access to education.
