Punjab Political News: Who will fill Capt Amarinder Singh shoes? Congress Huddle to decide on the new CM

The Congressional Legislature will reconvene today to choose Capt Amarinder Singh successor.

New Delhi: Following the shocking exit of Capt Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister of the Punjab months before the crucial Assembly elections, the congressional committee will hold a meeting to decide on the new Chief Minister of Punjab.

According to ABP sources, the meeting is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Chandigarh. Central Congress observers Ajay Maken, Harish Rawat, and Harish Chaudhary will also be present at the meeting. All deputies and ministers were asked to remain present.

Capt Amarinder Singh resignation can be a huge setback for Congress given the upcoming polls and constant internal struggles among leaders over who to choose a leader. With many names circling for the Punjab CM’s next face, sources have revealed Congressman Sunil Jakhar is the frontrunner to replace the captain’s tall shoes.

Meanwhile, Amarinder Singh has expressed his displeasure if the party sees CCP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu as its successor. He called Sidhu an “incompetent man” and a “threat to national security”.

“Navjot Singh Sidhu is an incompetent man, he’s going to be a disaster. I will object to his name for the next CM face. It has a link with Pakistan. It will be a threat to national security, ”Amarinder Singh told ANI news agency.

“Humiliated”: Capt Amarinder Singh after resigning from his post in Punjab CM

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh resigned his senior post on Saturday. Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.

Shortly after submitting his resignation, Captain spoke to media outside of Raj Bhavan, where he said he spoke to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi earlier today and told her about his decision to resign as Punjab CM.

“This has happened for the third time in two months. They have called the deputies twice in Delhi and now this PLC is meeting. I feel humiliated and so I decided to leave the CM post. They (the party high command) can nominate anyone. trust, ” Captain said, addressing reporters.

Asked about the next step for Captain, he said he would meet with other leaders and then decide on the future course of action.

Captain’s resignation is said to have come hours after the Congressional high command categorically asked him to step down as chief minister to allow the election of a new incumbent.
