Assam floods worst: Over 8 lakh people affected, 14 killed in landslides

Assam floods worst, Floods have wreaked havoc in Assam. More than 500 families from two villages in Jamunamukh district have had to live on the railway tracks. These people had to resort to railway tracks because railway tracks were the only place in the entire area that was not submerged in flood waters.

Reports suggest that residents of Patiya Pathar village have lost almost everything in the floods and are forced to live under temporary sheds nearby. The villagers claim that they have not received much help from the district administration, the state government or the central government.

The situation in Assam remains worrisome due to rains and floods. More than 8 lakh people have been affected in 2585 villages of 29 districts due to incessant rains. So far 14 people have died due to landslides caused by rain. People living in temporary sheds are living in inhuman conditions. Many people are hungry for many days and are forced to live under the open sky.

21,884 people were safely evacuated from the flood affected areas

People have told the media that our house has been washed away due to the floods. Our crop ready to be harvested is ruined. We are not even getting clean water. We are getting only one meal for the last four days, that too some undercooked rice. 

Army, paramilitary forces and national and state disaster relief forces have reportedly evacuated 21,884 people from flood-affected areas by boats and helicopters. According to reports, 86,772 people have taken shelter in 343 relief camps while another 411 relief distribution centers are also operational.
