Apple Watch with just sensors? The new patent redefines Apple’s smart watch without a digital crown

If you own or have seen an Apple Watch, you will know that the Digital Crown on the right side is an integral part of every Apple wristwatch.

It allows users to roam the Apple Watch without having to touch the screen all the time, and it offers a classic look to it.

But it is possible that Apple is thinking of ending it. Apple’s new patent shows Apple Watch discarding the Digital Crown harvesting light sensors in its place.

Humbly Apple was able to secure the patent that Apple had recently filed in the US Patent & Trademark Office. Rethinks the Apple Watch without the Digital Crown.

Apple Watch with just sensors

Therefore, instead of a crown, there is a series of optical sensors that will allow a smart watch to detect a user’s touch, such as wrist movement.

Called the “User input sensor“, the copyright describes how Apple’s wants to use these sensors to allow users to scroll through the interface without having to use the required hardware.

In the absence of a Digital Crown, visual sensors will learn movement around you, and translate it into system controls.

According to Apple’s patent, removing the Digital Crown will free up space that could include other items, while making the clock tighter.

For example, a user can provide movement and touch near an input part that can be detected by the input part and translate it, as well as a user input to control a specific aspect of the clock.

The movement and touch provided by the user can be detected directly by the visual systems of the input part, so that the number of moving parts is reduced and the space between the clocks is used efficiently.

Digital Crown currently incorporates an electric heartbeat sensor that allows users to measure the ECG, so when released on the Apple’s Watch, light sensors will take command.

But patents indicate that these nerves will not only help capture the ECG, but also be used to measure respiration rate, blood oxygenation rate, blood pressure, and more.

After all, Apple is slowly stepping into making the Apple Watch a perfect device for health-related features.

Rumors suggest that the 2022 Apple Watch will bring new health features, so replacing the Digital Crown with optical nerves may be a step in the right direction.

But, at the same time, it is hard to imagine that this Apple’s Watch with visual sensors would become a reality. That’s because copyright does not mean a real product. And even if Apple decides to use this idea, it will take some years.
