Apple has been accused of degrading many iPhone models after its latest update. The Spanish Consumer Protection Organization has sent a letter to Apple accusing the company of slowing down older phones such as the iPhone 8 and iPhone XS, but also the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 following a recent update.
Updates mentioned in the book are mainly iOS 14.5, 14.5.1, and iOS 14.6. The letter accuses Apple of slowing down the iPhones and calls on the company to compensate the affected consumers.
The Spanish media Phoneros first reported that the Spanish Consumer Protection Organization (OCU) had sent the letter to Apple.
The letter is intended to initiate a dialogue with Apple and look at how to compensate affected consumers. If Apple does not respond with a satisfactory response, OCU has reportedly threatened to sue.
“The letter sent aims to initiate negotiations with Apple to find a way to compensate its customers. Even if Apple doesn’t respond positively, other steps can be taken in national courts to enforce consumer rights, ”the OCU wrote in the letter.
Apple Accused Of Loosening iPhones
While the book does not specifically address user complaints, it states that updates for iOS 14.5, 14.5.1, and 14.6 have severely damaged consumer devices, causing their processing speed to drop dramatically and battery drain.
The book states that many media outlets, both technical and non-technical, have reported on this. Altroconsumo, Deco Protee, and Test-Achats also participated in a letter submitted by the OCU.
Last month, iPhone users reported serious battery discharge problems after the update to iOS 14.6 version. One iPhone user said his device was disconnected by 70 percent overnight.
An iPhone 12 user has complained that their phone battery has risen to only 30 percent and after keeping it charged all night and that it “continues to charge”.
