5 Bengal teachers attempt suicide, consuming poison on the transfer order

Bengal teachers attempt suicide: Seeking to meet their professional demands immediately, five female teachers who were under contract with primary schools in West Bengal attempted suicide yesterday by consuming poison in front of the education department during a protest.

The incident happened in front of Bikash Bhavan, Saltlake. The teachers were protesting against their transfer to places far from their homes when they attempted to kill themselves. Soon the teachers were rushed to the public hospital. According to the first entries, 3 of them are admitted to intensive care.

3 teachers are admitted to the RG Kar hospital and 2 to the NRS hospital. According to hospital sources, 40 to 50 mg of pesticides entered their bodies, which caused damage to the liver and respiratory system.

State Education Minister Bratya Basu rushed to the scene but made no comment.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party state chairman Dilip Ghosh criticized the local government for the incident. BJP spokesman Samik Bhattacharya also criticized the government of Bengal led by Mamata.

“The incident shows how desperate people are getting here, especially teachers. The government is responsible. The government should look into the condition of teachers in Bengal. The government has failed to create or fill jobs vacancies. We pray for the speedy recovery of teachers, “said the head of the BJP.

TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh suspects incitement from opponents behind the incident. He reportedly said: “We hope the teachers will recover soon. But we also have to see if they acted on someone’s provocation.
