Chennai: Ahead of the NEET exams on Sunday, a 19-year-old aspirant was found dead in his home at Kooliyur village in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district. The deceased is identified as Dhanush. Police sources said that Dhanush was to appear for his third attempt in the National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test (NEET) on Sunday.

Dhanush had passed his Class 12 exam in 2019 and was preparing late at night for Sunday’s exam. However, he was found lying dead when his parents went to wake him up early in the morning.

Police rushed to his home and the body was taken to the government general hospital in Mettur. A case has been registered and the police are investigating the case.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Stalin expressed shock and blamed the Center for the tragic incident.

Tamil Nadu has witnessed strong protests against the NEET exam from students and political parties.

In 2017, the suicide of a student named S Anitha in Ariyalur sparked widespread protests in the state. Anitha had one of the top marks on the upper secondary exam. However, she was only able to score less than 100 out of 700 on the exam. She argued the case in the Supreme Court against medical entry at the national level.

At least three students took the extreme leap in 2018, ’19, and ’20 each in Tamil Nadu.
