100 Schools of Specialised Excellence will be opened, approval by Delhi cabinet

New Delhi: Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved the establishment of about 100 specialized schools that will provide a platform for children to nurture their talent and excel in their favorite areas. Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia said this would be done in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), Performing and Visual Arts, Humanities and 21st century skills.

“We will live in a time of learning and doing well, our children need the opportunity to be prepared to face the challenges of the next generation. Every child is unique and talented, we want to make sure they get the opportunity and support to achieve the highest success in their lives. Schools with special skills will provide our children with the right platform to nurture their talent and excel in their hobbies,” Sisodia said in a statement.

He added that these schools would be voluntarily used and included classes from 9 to 12 in the 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 learning framework introduced by the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. All Delhi government schools will also be upgraded to reache the level of Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya (RPVV) existing and performing schools. Specialized schools will focus on providing learning opportunities for infrastructure benefit, establishing and problem-solving learning and focused teaching, strong partnerships with universities and industry leaders, educational programs, and easy access to examples, he added.
